Establishing Our Herb and Edible Flower Garden
We’ve recently set up our herb and edible flower garden, transforming a former grassland area into a productive and wildlife-friendly space. To prepare the ground without chemicals, we rotivated the soil and covered it with a tarpaulin over winter, helping to suppress weeds naturally. Once uncovered, we laid wood-chip paths and divided the area into six beds, ready for planting.
This garden will serve two key purposes on our farm. First, it will provide a new income stream through the sale of fresh herbs and edible flowers. More importantly, it will act as a vital food source for beneficial insects, supporting natural pollinators and pest control. By encouraging these helpful insects, we’re building resilience into our growing system—allowing nature to do the hard work of balancing pests and boosting pollination.
With this new space established, we’re excited to see how it contributes to both productivity and biodiversity on the farm in the seasons ahead!
